Stage Hypnosis 3

A mother and her 12-year-old son go to a stage hypnotist. He puts them under and has them swap personalities to the great enjoyment of the crowd. When they returned home, a post-hypnotic suggestions triggers their personality reversion once again.

Mother: (whining) C’mon, Ethan! Stop being so lame and come play laser tag with me! It’s gonna be so lit! I don’t wanna go by myself and play with a bunch of randos. They’re all, like, total noobs!

Ethan: (calmly) Mom, for the last time, I’ve already told you I have things to do today. I don’t have time to run around a laser tag arena with you.

Mother: (pouting) Ugh, you’re being such a buzzkill, Ethan! We’ll have, like, way more fun if we go together. I mean, what’s so important that you can’t spend a couple of hours playing with me?

Ethan: (sighs, trying to be patient) I’ve already explained, Mom. I have homework to finish, and then I need to start prepping dinner. It’s not all fun and games, you know. There are responsibilities to take care of.

Mother: (rolling her eyes) Homework? Dinner? You’re seriously worrying about that stuff right now? That’s so boring! You’re acting like an old lady! Live a little, Ethan!

Ethan: (firmly) I’m acting responsibly, Mom, which is what you should be doing too. Laser tag can wait, but dinner can’t. You know how important it is to have a balanced meal.

Mother: (huffs) Ugh, whatever! You sound just like Grandma right now. “Balanced meal this, responsibilities that.” Can’t you just chill for once and have some fun?

Ethan: (sternly) Fun is important, but so is being responsible. You’ve been running around all day, refusing to do anything productive. You’re not acting like the adult here, Mom. I need you to snap out of this and start acting your age.

Mother: (mocking) “Start acting your age.” Blah, blah, blah. You’re just saying that ’cause you’re scared I’ll beat you at laser tag. You’re afraid of a little competition, aren’t you?

Ethan: (sighs, deeply frustrated) Mom, this isn’t about competition. This is about priorities. I’m not scared—I’m concerned. You’re not yourself, and this behavior is getting out of hand.

Mother: (grinning) Ha! You’re just making excuses because you know I’ll totally own you out there. Come on, Ethan, stop being such a chicken and let’s go already!

Ethan: (standing up, hands on hips) Enough, Mom! I’m not going to the laser tag place, and that’s final. You need to stop acting like this and help me with dinner instead. You can have your fun later.

Mother: (crossing arms and pouting like a child) Ugh, you’re no fun at all! This sucks! I just wanted to hang out and have a good time, but you’re ruining everything!

Ethan: (softens, trying to be gentle) I’m not trying to ruin anything, Mom. I just need you to remember who you are—who you’re supposed to be. You’re the mom, not the kid. Let’s get dinner done together, and then maybe we can figure out something fun to do afterward. Okay?

Mother: (grumbles) Fine, whatever. But you owe me big time, Ethan. And don’t think this means I’m not gonna crush you in laser tag next time!

Ethan: (smiles slightly) We’ll see about that, Mom. But first things first, let’s head to the kitchen and get started on dinner.

Mother: (grinning) You get dinner started, I'll call Kenny. If you don't wanna play, he will.

Ethan: (sighing) You want to call my friend Kenny?

Mother: Yeah.

Ethan: Suit yourself. JUst be home by dinner time.

Mother: Kayo.

Mother: (phoning Kenny's mother, Lauren) Ethan and I are going to laser tag. Would Kenny like to come along?"

Lauren: I'll check. (puts down phone and returns 3 minutes later) Yeah.

Mother: (excited) Great, I'll pick him up.

When Kenny gets into mother's car, he doesn't see Ethan.

Kenny: Where's Ethan?

Mother: He decided not to come. But you and I will have a blast.

Mother drives off to the laser tag arena.

End.
